It’s been a busy few weeks for me, partly because I’ve been eating a lot.
Most notably, I stopped into opening day at Ray’s Hell-Burger yesterday, which is just down from Ray’s the Steaks on Wilson Blvd.
I almost don’t want to share it. It was that good.
The burgers are indescribably juicy and flavorful. 10 ounces [...]

Top Tastes: Week of June 17

This week had some good highs and a few plunging lows. I usually only like to write up my favorites, but there were some real whoppers this week.
Let’s start with the good news:
I had a standout dish at the new Thirsty Bernie’s in Arlington. At the corner of Glebe and Lee Hwy, the self-proclaimed “Sports [...]

This week, I dropped by DC Coast for its 10th anniversary. The celebration included dishes from the start of the restaurant (grilled pork chop with sweet potatoes and cane syrup) and future dishes (lobster rolls). My favorite was a fabulous Pipe Dreams goat cheesecake.

Let me explain Top Tastes. I want this feature to round up the best [...]

My favorite treat of the week was the Pork Chop Adraki at Rasika. I showed no shame, licking my fingers and fighting for any remaining sauce. All pork should be that lucky.
As an L.A. baby, I can’t [...]

They say you can’t please all of the people all of the time. You can’t, but Restaurant Eve in Old Town, Alexandria probably can. It’s a four-star fine dining restaurant, a seasonal bistro, an innovative bar, and a community gathering place all in one. I’ve eaten in Eve’s Tasting Room for nine courses of culinary [...]

Cookies go with ice cream the way that a sun roof goes with your car. Sure, ice cream is dandy alone, but cookies make it so much better. Mint Oreo is a classic, but chocolate chip cookie dough is all-time genius. The beauty of pure vanilla ice cream goes on adrenaline when it’s studded [...]
