Beans There

October 31st, 2008 · No Comments · Elsewhere, Farmers Market, Recipe, Travel

One of the only good things about coming back from vacation is enjoying the souvenirs (and photos) that you acquired along the way. In our case, there were bags upon bags of coffee, some chocolate bars, and our favorite beans.
The Ferry Terminal farmers market holds some of our favorite food destinations. Gluteneer heads straight to [...]

Apple of My Pie

October 8th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Bakery, Farmers Market, Pie, Recipe, Uncategorized

Peaches are gone, berries are gone, but it’s apple time, so I guess I can’t totally complain.
The CSA is giving us a heaping bag o’ apples each week. I can’t eat that many apples unless they’re peeled, sliced, and baked into a pie.
Sadly, I’ve had really poor luck with gluten-free crusts, so I’ve been pretty [...]

Little Man Taters

September 22nd, 2008 · 2 Comments · Farmers Market, Recipe

The best thing about the ritual of Sunday supper is that it happens once a week. We used to venture out to Nana’s Sunday Dinner at the Majestic as often as possible, but now Sunday nights are spent al fresco on the deck soaking up the remaining balmy nights.

Gadzukes: Braised Zucchini

September 19th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Farmers Market, Recipe

Bean Stalking

September 15th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Farmers Market, Recipe

Peaches come and go, broccoli is just as fleeting, but when it comes to green beans, those things are here to stay. I’m not sure if our CSA is aiming to take up commodities trading or just loves long legumes, but we get a bag o’ beans nearly every week.
I don’t mean to sound any [...]

Midsummer Night’s Feast

July 17th, 2008 · No Comments · Farmers Market, Recipe

With this summer vegan stint, I’ve been loving on Veganomicon, a vegan tome that I gave to Gluteneer for Christmas last year. (Ironically, he also received a three-month subscription to bacon-of-the-month club, but I digress.) The book is a fantasyland of recipes, offering preparations of chickpeas, tempeh, forbidden seitan and fresh fruit and veggies.
We rounded [...]
