Stay or Go: D.C. Restaurant Week 2008

August 10th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Restaurants, Uncategorized, Washington, D.C.

Restaurant Week is back. In years past, it was a week of $20-something lunches with $30-something dinners. Nowadays, the week is often 2 weeks or even a month and that dinner has become $35.08 rather than the expected $30.08. I’ve gone to more than my fair share of restaurant week meals (it was a part [...]

Snapshots of New York

August 3rd, 2008 · No Comments · Elsewhere, New York, Restaurants, Travel

Sure, it’s easy to sometimes feel like D.C. doesn’t have it as good as NY, but my visit nearly convinced me of it — New York was the best eating I’ve had in ages.
Here are some snapshots of my bites apart from BabyCakes and Chinese food.
I like to think that the original yogurt at 40 [...]

Soy Happy: Gluten-Free Chinese in New York

July 24th, 2008 · No Comments · Elsewhere, Restaurants

I trekked up to New York for work this week. New York may be hot, busy, and gritty, but it’s also a gluten-free mecca. I started plotting my meal plan ages ago and boy did it work out nicely.
Gluteneer and I finished up the cleanse with a rocking gluttonous affair on Friday night. There was [...]

The burgers are indescribably juicy and flavorful. 10 ounces [...]

Why? It’s adjacent to the La [...]

Dispatch from Charlottesville (Part 2)

June 2nd, 2008 · 2 Comments · Elsewhere, Restaurants, Uncategorized

Travel back with me to Charlottesville where all eating seems to be much more mindful.
In this installment, we visit Revolutionary Soup. This tiny underground spot serving……soup in all flavors and textures. In true C’ville fashion, the spot features ingredients sourced from local farms (Polyface chicken sound good to anybody else out there?). When you order [...]

Dispatch from Charlottesville (Part 1)

May 26th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Elsewhere, Restaurants, Travel

The Freebird flew the coop on Saturday for a gluten-free trip to Charlottesville. For such a small town, the eating is world-class and so much of it is celiac-friendly. For starters, everyone should have it as good as the shoppers at the Saturday farmers market. If you can eat gluten, the market has [...]
